Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 10, 2026

1. Introduction

Savorist ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, store, and share your information when you use the Savorist mobile application ("App"). By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

• Account Information: Name, email address, and profile photo when you register via Apple Sign In or email authentication.
• User Content: Recipes you create, scan, or import; photos you upload; notes and annotations; collections and lists you curate.
• Survey Responses: Onboarding preferences including cooking goals, cuisine preferences, dietary restrictions, and referral source.
• Communications: Messages you send to us via support channels or content reports.

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

• Usage Data: Features used, screens viewed, actions taken, session duration, and interaction patterns.
• Device Information: Device model, operating system version, app version, unique device identifiers, and language settings.
• Performance Data: Crash reports, error logs, and app performance metrics.

2.3 Information from Third Parties

• Authentication Providers: Basic profile data (name, email) from Apple when you sign in.
• Analytics: Aggregated usage data from analytics services.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Provide, maintain, and improve the App and its features
• Personalize your experience, including recipe recommendations and AI interactions
• Process subscriptions and manage your account
• Send you trial reminders, important service updates, and optional notifications
• Respond to your support requests and communications
• Analyze usage patterns to improve the App
• Process and respond to content reports and DMCA notices
• Detect, prevent, and address technical issues, fraud, or security concerns
• Comply with legal obligations

4. Your Recipes and Private Content

Recipes you import, scan, or create are stored in your private recipe journal by default. We do not publish, redistribute, or add your private recipes to our public discovery library. Your private recipes are visible only to you unless you explicitly choose to share them using the App's sharing features.

When you choose to share a recipe, the shared content is accessible only to the specific recipients or via the share link you generate. Share links expire after a set period.

We do not use the content of your private recipes, personal notes, uploaded photos, or private journal entries for any purpose other than providing the App's services to you, unless you have given explicit consent.

5. AI Features and Data Usage

Savorist uses artificial intelligence to provide recipe extraction from photos and URLs, recipe generation, conversational assistance through Savannah, and voice-guided cook mode.

AI-generated content is provided for informational purposes and may contain inaccuracies. You should verify nutritional information, allergen details, and cooking safety independently.

Savorist may use anonymized and aggregated app behavior data — such as feature usage patterns, recipe interaction data, and general engagement metrics — to improve and train our AI models. This data is stripped of personally identifiable information before use.

You can opt out of AI training data collection at any time by disabling the "Help Improve Savorist AI" toggle in your Profile settings. Opting out does not affect your access to any features of the App.

We do not use the content of your private recipes, personal notes, or photos for AI training purposes without your explicit consent.

AI features are powered in part by third-party services, including OpenAI. When you use AI features, relevant data (such as a photo you scan or a question you ask Savannah) is transmitted to these providers for processing. These providers process data under their own terms and privacy policies and are contractually bound to protect your information.

6. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information in the following circumstances:

Service Providers: We use third-party services to operate the App, including Supabase (database hosting, authentication, and file storage), OpenAI (AI-powered recipe extraction, generation, and voice features), RevenueCat (subscription management and purchase processing), and SuperwallKit (paywall analytics). These providers process data on our behalf and are contractually bound to protect your information.

User-Directed Sharing: When you choose to share a recipe, the content you share is transmitted to the recipients you select. Savorist does not control or monitor the subsequent use of shared content by recipients.

Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, governmental request, or to respond to valid DMCA notices.

Protection of Rights: We may disclose information to protect the rights, property, or safety of Savorist, our users, or others, including to enforce our Terms of Service.

Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of the transaction. We will notify you of any such change.

With Your Consent: We may share information with third parties when you explicitly authorize us to do so.

7. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on secure servers provided by Supabase, with data centers located in the United States. We implement industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, access controls, and regular security reviews.

Your private recipes are protected by row-level security policies that ensure only you can access your own content.

While we strive to protect your information, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of your data.

8. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law or for legitimate business purposes (such as resolving disputes, enforcing agreements, or maintaining DMCA compliance records).

Shared recipe links expire automatically and are removed after expiration.

Anonymized and aggregated data that cannot be used to identify you may be retained indefinitely for analytics and improvement purposes.

9. Your Privacy Choices

Savorist gives you meaningful control over your data. Below is a summary of the choices available to you and how to exercise them.

9.1 Account and Profile

Edit or remove personal information: Update your display name, profile photo, cuisine preferences, and dietary preferences at any time from your Profile settings.
Delete your account: You can permanently delete your account and all associated data directly from Profile > Delete Account within the App. All personal data, saved recipes, private recipes, lists, shopping lists, and chat history are removed within 30 days. You may also request deletion by emailing support@savorist.app.

9.2 AI and Data Training

AI training opt-out: Savorist may use anonymized, aggregated usage patterns to improve AI features. You can disable this at any time by turning off "Help Improve Savorist AI" in Profile > Preferences. Opting out has no effect on your access to any App features, including Savannah, recipe scanning, and cook mode.
AI interactions: Conversations with Savannah and voice transcriptions are processed by third-party AI providers (OpenAI) in real time. We do not store raw voice audio. Chat history is stored locally on your device and can be cleared at any time.

9.3 Analytics and Performance Tracking

Analytics: We use PostHog for product analytics and Sentry for crash and performance monitoring. These services collect anonymized usage events, crash reports, and device-level performance data. This data is not linked to your identity and is not used for advertising or cross-app tracking.
No cross-app tracking: Savorist does not participate in cross-app or cross-site tracking. We do not use Apple's IDFA or any advertising identifiers. Our App Tracking Transparency (ATT) declaration confirms that we do not track users across other companies' apps or websites.
Do Not Track: Our website does not currently respond to browser "Do Not Track" signals, as there is no industry-standard implementation. However, we do not use the website to track individual visitors for advertising purposes.

9.4 Notifications

Push notifications: You can enable or disable push notifications from Profile > Notifications, or from iOS Settings > Savorist.
Trial reminders: If you start a free trial, we may send reminders before the trial ends. These follow your notification preferences and can be disabled at any time.
Marketing emails: If you subscribe to our newsletter, you can unsubscribe at any time by contacting support@savorist.app. We do not send marketing emails unless you opt in.

9.5 Subscriptions

Manage or cancel: Subscriptions are processed through Apple's App Store. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time through your Apple ID settings (Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions). Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period.

9.6 Content Controls

Private by default: All recipes you import, scan, or create are private to you. Nothing is shared publicly unless you explicitly choose to share it.
Share controls: You choose when to share a recipe and with whom. Share links expire automatically. You can stop sharing at any time.
Report content: You can report recipes that you believe violate intellectual property rights or community standards using the "Report Recipe" feature in the App.

9.7 California Residents (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act and the California Privacy Rights Act:

Right to know: You can request details about the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you.
Right to delete: You can request deletion of your personal information (also available directly in the App).
Right to correct: You can request correction of inaccurate personal information.
Right to opt out of sale or sharing: We do not sell your personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Right to limit use of sensitive personal information: We only use sensitive personal information (such as account credentials) for the purposes of providing the App.
Non-discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.

To exercise these rights, contact us at support@savorist.app. We will verify your identity before processing your request.

9.8 European Economic Area Residents (GDPR)

If you are in the EEA, you have the following rights under the General Data Protection Regulation:

Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
Rectification: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete personal data.
Erasure: Request deletion of your personal data ("right to be forgotten").
Restriction: Request that we limit how we process your personal data.
Objection: Object to processing of your personal data based on legitimate interests.
Data portability: Request your personal data in a structured, machine-readable format.
Withdraw consent: Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.
Lodge a complaint: You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Our legal bases for processing your data include: performance of a contract (providing the App), legitimate interests (improving our services and ensuring security), and consent (where applicable, such as AI training opt-in and newsletter subscriptions).

To exercise these rights, contact us at support@savorist.app. We will respond within 30 days.

10. Children's Privacy

The App is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, contact us at support@savorist.app.

11. Third-Party Links and Services

The App may contain links to third-party websites or services, including recipe source URLs that users import. We are not responsible for the privacy practices, content, or accuracy of these third parties. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you access through the App.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy within the App and updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
